It is the musical collaboration of the year: the sensational, award-winning, platinum-selling Secret Garden on stage together with the Mainland's own international chart-topper Ding Fei Fei and her equally gifted sister Ding Wei.
Composer/keyboardist Rolf Lovland and violinist Fionnuala Sherry of Secret Garden head for Hong Kong with their six-member band, while the Ding Sisters are accompanied by some of the Mainland's top band musicians. In all, 15 leading performers appear in this all-star New Vision Arts Festival opening event.
Secret Garden's Hong Kong appearance rounds off the group's China tour. The band's fusion of Celtic and Nordic sounds takes you from the romantically serene to the wildly explosive; from the sweeping landscape of mythical Ireland to the magical Norwegian fjords and midnight sun.
Ding Fei Fei launched her career in 2000 with the extraordinary success of Forgotten Moon. It made her the first Chinese artist to have a hit in the British singles chart. Fei Fei's current album, Origin, has taken in world influences and captured international acclaim.
Ding Wei is known in Asia as a singer-songwriter with soul. Her original number Girl and String Quartet received numerous prizes in 2000. Her 2004 album, Dear Ding Wei, melds influences such as flamenco, electronica and unplugged, classical string quartet and world music.
Secret Garden and the Ding Sisters will take turns on the stage and collaborate on two Ding Fei Fei's signature tunes Ink Painting and My Irish Friend, along with Secret Garden's Nocturne and latest work Lotus. The Ding Sisters will also, for the first time, team up with special guest, operatic virtuoso Warren Mok.
Switching from violin to erhu and back, this fusion of European and Chinese musical styles symbolises a world with no boundaries. Welcome to the inspiring global village of New Vision where East meets West and pop meets classical. |
