European physical theatre laced with East Asian flavour, Il n'y a plus de firmament is a poetic piece by Hungarian choreographer Josef Nadj inspired by the friendship between French painter Balthus and Artaud, master of Theatre of Cruelty.
This intoxicating montage of Balthus' tantalising imagery, Artaud's liberating poetic theatre, exotic music and a tacit bond with the Orient seeps slowly into the subconscious, taking hold of the senses by transforming strenuous physical movement into a feathery, weightless dance performance.
Rationality may bring a sense of security but it may also imprison the pulse of life. Behind the mask of insanity, is there a place where freedom beckons?
The diverse dances and acrobatic movements on stage not only stimulate the senses and redefine theatre space but also help us rediscover Rilke, Zhuangzi, Beckett, poetry, theatre and the relationship between Eastern and Western philosophy. Through these fragments of reality we can once again define our roles in life.
Il n'y a plus de firmament is another exciting and mesmerising offering from Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne E.T.E. since Hashirigaki. A visual spectacle of dance, poetry and physical movement not to be missed!
