–Triangle Arts & Entertainment
The recipient of a number of major awards worldwide, “startlingly imaginative” (New York Times) Chinese-American choreographer Shen Wei has amazed the international dance world with his exceptional artistic vision. Commissioned by last year’s American Dance Festival, Limited States sees Shen explore new creative avenues, employing multimedia for the first time to weave together real and virtual dancers into sculptural forms and developing a refreshingly original encounter through the use of technology. The condensed and revised 40-minute version to be performed in Hong Kong promises to be an even more intensive wonder.
(Commissioned by the New Vision Arts Festival)
With its bold imagery and pioneering forms, Shen Wei’s recent site-specific choreography has become a hot topic on the dance scene. Like his acclaimed works commissioned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Park Avenue Armory in New York, his breathtaking new piece tailor-made for the New Vision Arts Festival and Hong Kong Cultural Centre seeks to make the most out of the venue’s space.
In this fresh take on performance setting, the foyer is turned into a palette on which dancers paint flowing landscapes through the movement of their bodies. They also interact with the surrounding installations as if they are living statues. Members of the audience are free to move around their designated viewing areas as they wish, seeing the production from multiple angles. Those standing near the performance area in the foyer may also be able to watch the dancers up close. An unparalleled arts experience that opens up inspiring perspectives.
This world première lasts about 30 minutes. The audience will be guided to view the show from standing zones in the foyer, from upper floors or staircases according to ticket price (please refer to the foyer floor plans). Comfortable shoes are recommended.
