The first collaboration between
Class 7A Drama Group and Shu Ning Presentation Unit

Uses the power of imagination to break down theatrical boundaries
An explosive production that touches the heart
Following Chekhov's footsteps, a Cherry Orchard for the 21st century

Over a century ago, The Cherry Orchard by master dramatist Anton Chekhov highlighted the rapid changes then taking place in Russian society. An aristocratic family is forced to auction off their ancestral estate, which includes a beautiful cherry orchard. The buyer, as it eventually turns out, is the son of one of the family's serfs. The son has moved up and is now a member of the rising middle class.

Fast forward to the 21st century and we see the story of The Cherry Orchard repeated on a daily basis. Over the past decade, many small companies have grown to become huge corporations, only to be bought out in an overnight merger. However, a major takeover may be more than just a multi-million dollar deal involving factories and land. It can be a game in which winner and loser are hard to ascertain.

Inspired by The Cherry Orchard, i.Cherry uses a contemporary theatrical approach to search for themes and characters of the century-old classic in today's world, opening up a cross-generational dialogue with theatrical realism of yesteryear. The first collaboration between Class 7A Drama Group and Shu Ning Presentation Unit, this production brings together some of the finest local artistic talents, including playwright Yat Yau, multimedia director Hui Shu Ning, composer and winner of the Berlin Film Festival Silver Bear Peter Kam, and the multi-talented actor Cheung Tat-ming.
